Space For You

Supporting positive emotional
health through creativity

Space for You is a charity which provides creative workshops for wellbeing.

Research shows that being creative has a positive effect on mental health. It helps us to find joy, connection, confidence and a more positive outlook on life.

Space For You is here to provide a friendly and welcoming space for those with low mood or poor mental health, to channel their creativity.

Creative Workshops

We hold creative workshops every Wednesday and Thursday at our art studio based on Penzance Promenade. This is a friendly place to take time out, to relax, to meet new people, or to quietly work on a creative project. Workshops are open to people of all abilities.

Our Vision

Sadly, the mental health provisions available in Cornwall are not enough to support our community. Our goal is to provide a space for those overlooked by public health services to relax and recover.

We seek to transform lives for the better through creativity and connection with others.

A lovely relaxing space, with friendly and happy staff. All visitors welcome to interact and encourage each other as well.”

Research shows that there is a positive link between art and mental health

We believe that creating art and participating in creative activities can keep us healthy, but don’t just take our word for it. There’s plenty of research which shows a link between creativity and positive mental health.

Here are some of the key research findings:

Finding Connection

Group hobbies and activities with a social element are good for our mental health. They are a way for us to overcome social isolation, to meet new people and to communicate with others. This in turn improves mood and wellbeing.

Stress Relief

Being creative can increase positive emotions, lessen depressive symptoms, reduce stress and decrease anxiety. Even viewing art can make us feel better, but the best way to experience the positive emotional effects of art is through creating it.

Self-reflection

For people that feel out of touch with their sense of self or with their emotions, being creative can be a positive form of self-expression. It is a form of release and can help us to gain a deeper understanding of who we are.
